Looking for a chill and flat trail in Singapore? One that's perfect for older folks and those who just want a gentle walk? Let's talk about the Lower Pierce Reservoir flat trail. It's my go-to spot for fresh air without the tough hills. As a local uncle who walks here often, I'll share all you need to know. This guide covers the easy path, how to get there by MRT and bus, where to rest, and important tips for our weather.

The main path here is very flat and wide. The surface is mostly paved or hard-packed trail. You won't find steep slopes or tricky steps. It's safe for slow, steady walking. You can enjoy the green views of the reservoir (that water catchment area) without any worry.
You cannot reach it directly by MRT. But the journey is simple. First, take the MRT to Bishan MRT Station (North-South Line). Come out at Exit B. From there, walk to the Bishan Bus Interchange.
Next, board Bus Service 410. This is important. Only this bus goes into the park area on Sundays and Public Holidays. On weekdays, take bus 52, 54, or 410 from the same interchange. Ask the driver for "Lower Pierce Reservoir" or "Old Upper Thomson Road". The ride is quite short, about 10-15 minutes.
Alight when you see the reservoir on your left. The bus stop is named "Opp Singapore Island Country Club". Cross the road carefully to the reservoir side. You will see the entrance to the trail right away. The iconic boardwalk over the water is your starting point. It's very scenic for a first photo.
The flat trail follows the water's edge. You will walk under the shade of tall, mature trees. Look out for monitor lizards, birds, and maybe monkeys. Do not feed the monkeys. Just enjoy watching them from a distance. The path is straightforward and hard to get lost. You can walk as far as you like, then turn back the same way.
After the boardwalk, you'll find the first rest pavilion. This is a covered shelter with benches. It's a good spot to catch your breath. Further down, there are more pavilions. Always use them to rest and drink water. There are no shops inside the park. You must bring your own water. There are public toilets near the starting area. Use them before your long walk.
Our weather is hot and humid, or suddenly rainy. Here are my tips:
- Go early in the morning (before 9am) or late in the afternoon (after 4pm). The sun is less strong then.
- Wear a hat, sunglasses, and apply sunscreen.
- Carry a small umbrella or raincoat. Afternoon thunderstorms can come very fast.
- Bring a big water bottle. Drinking is a must to avoid heat fatigue.
- Wear proper walking shoes with good grip. The boardwalk can be slippery when wet.
Pack light but smart. Your bag should have: water, snacks, a small towel, your phone, and a power bank. As I said, there is no hawker centre or cafe inside. The nearest place for food is at Upper Thomson Road or back at Bishan. Plan your meal before or after your walk.
The Lower Pierce Reservoir flat trail is a treasure for seniors. It offers peace, nature, and gentle exercise. You can do a short 30-minute walk or a longer one. It's all up to you. The key is to go prepared for our Singapore climate. Enjoy the calm water, the cool breeze, and the simple joy of a walk well done. See you on the trail
