First, it seems the Xperia S will feature a an anti-stain shell. While this will help repel dirt and oil and keep the device looking new, those that have seen it in action have described a demonstration where a rep drew on the device with a pen, and was able to wipe off the marking with a single finger swipe. Neat.

Second — and this one is a whole lot more useful — the Sony Xperia S will come with a “fast charging” ability that gives the device 1 hour of talk time with a single 10 minute charge. 30 minutes is all it will take to charge up the Xperia S to 80%, at which point the device will lower power intake, slowly charging until 100% (for battery health).

Now it’s no secret that Apple sweats every last detail when it comes to their products – which if anything, is actually an understatement. Indeed, Apple’s VP of iOS software, Scott Forstall, once explained the extent to which Apple leaves no stone unturned. Speaking to the design of the iOS interface, Forstall said, “I actually have a photographer’s loupe that I use to make sure every pixel is right. We will argue over literally a single pixel.”

My Samsung Galaxy 5 I5500 is presently rooted and its only using Froyo (Android 2.2). The bad news is that Samsung will no longer support this model and we won’t be seeing a new Ice Cream Sandwich Android 4.0 (ICS) version from them. However, if you are someone who is willing to hack your phone, then fret not, as there is some good guides that I found to upgrade your stock ROM to the ClockWorkmod ROM that might have an upcoming ICS version soon.

Here are two new products announced to accompany the new Sony XPERIA lineup during the CES 2012 this week (January 10-13) in Las Vegas.

SmartWatch: It is a LiveView successor and is basically a micro display for Android smartphones, to wirelessly access calls, messages and applications. It features 128×128 pixels, 1.3” OLED touch display, Bluetooth and is splash proof (supporting IP54). It also includes a vibrating unit, accelerometer and a hardware button.

Smart Wireless Headset pro: It is a Bluetooth stereo headset that also works as a standalone MP3 player and FM radio when apart from the phone. It comes with a SD card reader and can handle SD cards up to 32GB. Smart Wireless Headset Pro features a portable FM radio, and a two row display.

Lastly, Sony has also given lucky people at CES 2012 a peek at their new phones > Xperia ion, Xperia S, Xperia NX and Xperia acro HD – at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2012.

The Xperia S is said to be the first smartphone from the new Xperia NXT series – next generation smartphones from Sony. The new Xperia S is an Android smartphone that sports a 12 megapixel camera with 16x digital zoomand, and has a 1.5GHz dual-core processor for faster performance.

The Xperia S is also NFC (near field communication) enabled to allow consumers to share content with each other as well as enjoying an increasing number of NFC applications and services. It has a 4.3 inch Reality Display with Mobile BRAVIA Engine with HD resolution screen (1280 x 720). It offers 32GB of internal flash storage space. Running Android 2.3 OS, the Xperia S will be available to consumers globally from the first quarter 2012.

The Xperia S will be upgraded to Android platform 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) during the second quarter 2012, said the company.

On the other hand, the Xperia ion, the first LTE smartphone from Sony, will be available exclusively in the US from AT&T in the second quarter. It has a 4.6-inch HD display (1280 X 720 pixels). It is powered by a 1.5GHz dual-core processor. The phone offers 16GB internal flash storage. Sporting a 12 megapixel, it is said to be the first LTE smartphone from Sony, exclusive with AT&T in the US.

Other two smartphones that the company has announced to introduce at the CES 2012 are Xperia NX and Xperia acro HD, which will be available in the Japanese market.

The Xperia NX is a variant of Xperia S for the Japanese market, while the Xperia acro HD is the follow-up to the Xperia acro with popular Japan-specific features including infrared port data exchange, mobile wallet and mobile TV.

There are plenty of free cloud service providers in the market this days. Personally, I’ve used Dropbox, Box and Google, with the prize going to Box for giving me 50GB of space on my SE Xperia Arc S. Here’s some options for those who need more cloud space :

1. Box.net provides 50 GB of free online storage for Box clients that have a free Box Personal account on an iOS device. If you like Box, vote for them here. Note: Box CEO and Co-founder is Aaron Levie.

2. Apple iCloud service provides 5GB of free storage for Apple iOS customers and a 50GB Apple iCloud upgrade is available for Apple iOS customers for $100/year. Purchased storage space is not used up by files bought from iTunes.

3. SugarSync matches Apple with free 5GB accounts with the option to upgrade with an additional 60GB of storage for $100 a year or 100GB for $150 a year.

4. Dropbox provides 2GB of storage for free with a 50GB upgrade available for $99 a year or a 100GB option for $199 a year. Dropbox’s referral program provides opportunities to increase storage up to an additional 16GB while HTC’s high-end smartphone users receive 5GB of free online Dropbox storage.

5. Memopal gives 3GB free and there are no platform limitations. An additional 200GB of storage is available for $50/year.

6. Microsoft’s SkyDrive cloud storage has a file size limitation of 50MB with 25GB of storage space available.

7. Google Docs file size limit is 1GB and you get 1GB of storage for free on top of your Gmail (7GB) and Picasa (1GB) storage.

8. Amazon Cloud Drive provides 5GB of free storage and songs purchased from Amazon Music store do not consume your storage limit.

9. i-Cloud Inc that offers Unlimited PC online backup and space for only USD$60.00/year (only $5.00/month). If you refer a customer to them, you’ll get a free account. Website looks a bit like the one at livedrive.com

10. Livedrive – Stream your videos, whatever format they’re in, over 3G or Wi-Fi straight to your device. Unlimited online backup at just €5.95 per month or €59.95 per year.
