FxSpyder is a website that lets you use their forex robots if you sign up with brokers using their IB code. Sounds like a good deal since they’ve just email me stating their best robot has earned + 283.00 % this month ! (PivotPointTrader). However their email did not state what pairs the robots were working on and there is not live statement to show us the proof. Did any of you gain that much from their robots?

FxSpyder

I’ve been trying out a few services that lets you publish Metatrader 4 results on webpages. So far I’ve run through mt4stats.com , mt4live.com and now mt4i.com is the latest one on my list. Mt4i.com is pretty cool as it allows me to export my forex results onto an excel file by just a click on the webpage. Pretty nifty as mt4live.com did not have this function. Mt4i.com can also pin protect your results so that only certain people can see it.

Here’s their newest update that I received today. (see below) …and do try out mt4i in the mean time!

Firstly, we would like to apologise for the MT Intelligence service outage either side of midnight GMT on Thursday February 18th. This was caused by a very strange bug in the Microsoft .NET Framework, in conjunction with several other improbable factors. See below for a full post-mortem on the incident. This was the first ever outage of the MTI Live service itself, as opposed to a problem with the entire datacentre in which the system is hosted.

Moving on to better news, we are pleased to announce that we have made further enhancements to the MTI Live service:

* Portfolios: combine multiple accounts into a single set of results which then behave like a normal account.
* Filtered charts: view the results for a particular symbol, direction etc without needing to filter your results.
* Extra charts: now more than 60 to choose from.
* Worked round the iPhone bug where Safari was not displaying a scrollbar on long pages such as statements.

There is also some other news which we would like to report:

* Importing strategy test results into MTI Live
* Coming soon: tools for developers
* Server monitoring

Portfolio functionality

Portfolios are simply a combination of multiple MTI Live accounts. A portfolio behaves exactly like a single account: you can view a combined statement of all the orders; you can download the combined order list into Excel; you can get statistics and charts for the aggregated performance; and you can publish the usual range of banners, scripts, RSS feeds etc.

You can create portfolios containing any accounts on the MTI Live service, not just your own. The steps for creating a portfolio are as follows:

* Log in to an MTI Live account. (If you have multiple accounts, it is best to choose one of them to create all your portfolios from.)
* Go to the results for the first account you want to add to the portfolio (e.g. http://www.mt4i.com/users/sirxl/stats), and click on the Portfolio button in the page banner.
* Fill in the form for creating a new portfolio.
* Go to the results for the next account you want to add to the portfolio, and click on the Portfolio button.
* Add the account to the existing portfolio.

When viewing a portfolio, the list of available charts includes extra entries (at the top of the list) for showing the individual performance of each constituent in the portfolio.

Filtered charts

Filtered charts let you graph a subset of your results – e.g. performance on a single symbol – without having to use the Filter button.

An example of an filtered chart goes as follows:

* Go to the Symbols tab of the Stats.
* Highlight any symbol in the grid (or more than one, using Ctrl+click or Shift+click).
* Click on the “Filtered chart” button in the grid’s toolbar.
* Choose the chart you want to draw.
* The chart will then only include orders for the symbol(s) which you have selected.

You can use the same technique on the other tabs, e.g. to draw charts which only include orders in a particular direction (buy/sell), or only orders opened between particular hours of day, or only orders with a particular magic number etc.

Extra charts

In addition to the portfolio constituents and the filtered charts, we have also added new options to the list of charts. (And the list has now been divided up into categories, making it easier to use.)

The new options include the following:

* Charts showing separate lines for the cumulative profit on each separate symbol, trade direction, and combination of symbol plus direction.
* Charts showing separate lines for the profit each day (i.e. variance, non-cumulative) on each separate symbol, trade direction, and combination of symbol plus direction.
* Charts showing separate lines for the cumulative number of pips banked on each separate symbol, trade direction, and combination of symbol plus direction.
* Charts showing separate lines for the number of pips banked for each symbol at each order close (i.e. an order-based chart, not a time-based one).

There are now more than 60 charts to choose from – plus, of course, the ability to generate an almost infinite number of charts of your own devising using the “Bespoke chart” button at the top of each data grid.

Importing strategy tests into MTI Live

We mentioned in a previous email that we have a tool for importing MT4 strategy test results into an MTI Live account (see http://www.mt4i.com/users/backtestexample).

In combination with the portfolio functionality, this means that you can not only use the power of MTI Live to analyse your backtesting, but you can also combine multiple strategy tests and analyse their collective performance. Up until now this kind of functionality has been limited to the institutional users of our MTI Desktop software.

We are now in a position to release this tool for MTI Live. However, we will almost certainly make a charge for this service. Please contact us if interested.

Coming soon

We will shortly be releasing some tools for MT4 developers: the ability to send SMS from indicators and EAs, plus a library which provides much more versatile email handling than MT4’s built-in SendMail() command – HTML emails, attachments, support for Gmail etc.

Server monitoring

We already provide a sophisticated monitoring tool which checks the health of MT4, issuing email and/or SMS alerts if a broker connection is lost, or a VPS goes down entirely, or if free margin reaches dangerous levels etc.

We could potentially provide a simpler version of this service based on MTI Live: i.e. alerts if no new statement is published from your copy of MT4 within a certain number of minutes. This would detect both the loss of an account connection and also complete failure or inaccesibility of a VPS. We are prepared to build this and make it available at a small monthly charge if a sufficient number of users are interested. Please contact us if you would be interested in such a service.

Unbeatably low latency to Alpari UK

Through a quirk of fate, the backup servers for MTI Live are actually more powerful than our live servers. These backup servers are colocated with an ISP who have provided us with fabulous service for more than 3 years.

We don’t currently use this ISP for any activity related to forex trading. But we had a “doh!” moment recently when we realised that they have unbeatably low latency to Alpari UK. If you are an Alpari customer, and you are trading a strategy where latency is a major factor, you should strongly consider using a VPS (or dedicated server) from this ISP. They’re not cheap, but that’s because they’re very good. For further details, please contact us.

Service outage post-mortem

Finally, a post-mortem on the service outage earlier this week. This was caused by a bizarre bug in the Microsoft .NET Framework, in conjunction with a small number of users publishing results – very frequently – from an EA which uses Unicode characters in its order comments, and by the users opting to include these order comments on their statement. This caused processor usage to hit 100% for extended periods, and the web service repeatedly shut itself down. We considered moving to our backup servers, but realised very quickly that this wasn’t going to help. Rather ironically, the problem turned out to be in a block of code whose only purpose is a trivial reduction in bandwidth usage of about 0.2%. This issue is now fully resolved, and we have also modified the service so that the impact of any similar incidents in future would be much less severe. Many apologies for the inconvenience.

Just got my hands on the new Forex Robot World Cup Royal Trader package that costs USD999. They just launched on the 16th Feb 2010.
