New iGoogle tested out

Looks like the Google guys have added a chat function to the new iGoogle interface. Looks kinda slick.

Announced in April, the new version of iGoogle that brings social applications is tested in a small number of randomly selected Google accounts.

The new iGoogle places the tabs on the left-hand side of the page and you can expand the tabs to see the list of gadgets and status information, like the number of unread Gmail messages. There’s a new chat feature borrowed from Gmail that lets you chat with your contacts while visiting iGoogle – that means iGoogle gets a sense of presence because you’ll know when your contacts are online. Since the chat feature will be enabled by default, it’s obvious that Google will be able to add options for sharing items and discussing posts with the contacts that are online.

Slovakia map

Here is some slovakia info. I might be going to Kosice and Germany soon……

In 1918 the Slovaks joined the closely related Czechs to form Czechoslovakia. Following the chaos of World War II, Czechoslovakia became a Communist nation within Soviet-ruled Eastern Europe. Soviet influence collapsed in 1989 and Czechoslovakia once more became free. The Slovaks and the Czechs agreed to separate peacefully on 1 January 1993. Slovakia was invited to join NATO and the EU in 2002.

In a bid to thwart the onslaught of new players like Google’s Android and the ever powerful Apple 3G iPhones, Nokia decides to shelve out $410 million to buy the rest of the 48 percent of Symbian that it does not own. Good thing from this is that it buys Nokia more time to check its strategies and it spins Symbian into an open source concept. Good job Nokia. That’s why I use your Nokia N95 right now….and I am still waiting for your haptic phones to roll out. There’s already a few Samsung haptic phones out. Hmmmm

Nokia may have just switched the balance of power from proprietary to open source mobile phone software by buying the remainder of the Symbian operating system software concern and spinning out the assets under an open source license.

This move, in which Nokia paid $410 million to buy the 48 percent of Symbian it didn’t already own and set up the Symbian Foundation as a new open source entity through which to offer the OS, is a survivalist’s calculation to thwart growing threats from proprietary and open source vendors alike.

Wii Fit

This guy lost 15 lbs in 41 days while using the Wii Fit. Wow man. Its a craze and I know there is a shortage of Wii Fits in USA now…..ORDER YOUR WII FIT HERE

Moving on to earlier this year, around February, I was once again contacted by Nintendo PR and they were kind enough to hook me up with the US version of Wii Fit to allow me to start my experiment early. They also flew me to New York in mid-March to demo Wii Fit for over an hour. I was able to get Wii Fit in early May and I started my Wii Fit Experiment on May 13th (One week before launch).

SmartTalk

The California ban on using a cell phone while driving begins July 1,2008. But no matter where you live, it’s still unsafe to be driving with a phone up to your ear. Think headsets look dorky? Here are some alternatives.

For iPhone users, the microphone-equipped earbuds that come standard with the phone don’t stay in the ear well and the sound quality leaves much to be desired. Griffin Technology makes two solutions ; TuneBuds Mobile and SmartTalk.

– TuneBuds Mobile combines the powerful lows and crisp highs of Griffin’s TuneBuds comfort earphones with Griffin’s new ControlMic – a high-sensitivity microphone and control module – to give you great sound and iPhone control in one

– SmartTalk combines an iPhone-compatible headphone adapter with a noise-canceling microphone and control module so you can use any earphones and retain all the functions of your iPhone.

Orb Audio’s new Home Theater speak system is stylish, round, and measure slightly over 4” in diameter. The rich sound emanates from steel cabinets that are designed with both sound and style in mind. The heart of the Orb speaker system is the spherical Mod1 satellite speaker, which is a little bigger than a baseball and is made from high carbon steel. Orb also sells separately a choice of two high-quality, very compact subwoofers, the Super Eight and the Uber Ten, that surpass the performance and sound of units many times their size and price.

What a joke. Looks like Mat Honan has made a convenient Dear Yahoo, I Quit form letter online. Its much easier than scouting around for other templates. Ingenius indeed.

You can’t. But Wired contributor Mat Honan — the man behind Barack Obama is your new bicycle — is here to help with the “Yahoo Resigner.” He even sprang for one of those fancy domains so you can find it real easy: http://yahoorezinr.com

Check out this form letter and make a few simple decisions — like is it with great “sadness” or “glee” or “self-interest” that you’re leaving? Then click on Submit and go have a beer.

Yesterday AuthenTec (NASDAQ: AUTH) has become the first biometric company to introduce fingerprint authentication into waterproof cell phones. This announcement is important because it highlights an area of growth for the Company’s breakthrough Touchstone fingerprint sensor packaging. Touchstone enables an entirely new class of fingerprint sensors that are extremely thin, durable and flexible – and also provides sleek aesthetic options for today’s cell phone designs. Phone manufacturers are increasingly looking to embed fingerprint sensors as a key feature to differentiate their product lines. AuthenTec’s fingerprint sensors are designed into more than 95% of all commercially available biometric cell phones to protect access to the devices, to control screen navigation and to conduct mobile commerce transactions.

Waterproof cell phones are gaining in popularity – especially during summer:

* In summer, cell phone returns spike due to accidental drops into swimming pools, Jacuzzis, lakes or oceans
* The #1 reason for cell phone returns not covered under warranty is damage from exposure to excess moisture or immersion in water or other liquids

* More than 1.2 million mobile phones were dropped in lavatories, drinks or put through washing machines last year (The Daily Telegraph 2007)
