Wow. This is great. There’s no more depending on TMNET Streamyx for wired internet broadband in Malaysia. I’ve been using Jaring’s 512KB wireless broadband since Dec 2004 last year and so far I am quite happy. The nearest base station around my area is at the Summit USJ shopping centre and the signal is quite reliable. Their wireless service is still limited to certain areas in Klang Valley unlike the new wired service that goes nationwide.
And today I stumbled upon this news while surfing at The SUN’s website. The funny thing about the new Jaring wired broadband packages is that they tie you down for 2 years. The minimum subscription period is 24 months from the signed up date. So you’ll be stuck with them for 2 years even if you don’t like their service. TMNET Streamyx holds you down for only 12 months.
The Jaring 1MB wired service (RM79 per month) is also RM9 cheaper than the TMNET 1MB streamyx service (RM88 per month). Both of them comes with a free modem.
As for the Jaring wireless service, there’s only the 1MB package as the 512KB that I used to subscribe to has been taken out. It’s also now cheaper at RM99 per month compared to RM125 previously. However there is no more a rental option for the Wireless Modem by SOMA Networks and you’ll have to buy it outright for RM499.
So it looks like there is gonna be a price war between Jaring and TMNET and this is good news for consumers. Let’s hope their service is much better than TMNET’s as my office used to have erratic internet connections in Petaling Jaya.

Jaring dialup subscribers can now switch over to high-speed inter net broadband service and Jaring’s MY015 Internet telephony system, as these services now cover the whole of Malaysia.
The broadband service gives consumers 1Mbps of speed, together with massive savings for its internet-based telephone that makes and receives calls using the prefix 015 assigned to Jaring.
Jaring chief executive Dr Mohamed Awang Lah said with the blanket nationwide broadband coverage, Jaring is able to upgrade its current dial-up subscribers who have been waiting to convert to high-speed broad band and start using MY015 voice access.
Wired Broadband (based on ADSL) is a new service offered by JARING that ride on customer existing phone line to provide broadband connectivity service. Coverage for Wired Broadband is not limited to the areas listed below. All you need is a normal telephone line (PSTN) no matter where your location is nationwide*.
